Limpia de Huevo
what + how to
A limpia de huevo, or egg cleanse, is a traditional Indigenous and Latine ritual used to clear heavy or unwanted energy and help you reconnect with yourself. The practice has deep roots in Mesoamerican traditions and has been passed down through generations as a simple, intentional form of spiritual cleansing.
The egg acts as a vessel, absorbing the energy you’re ready to release. You can use a limpia when you’re feeling energetically “off,” carrying heavy emotions, coming out of a difficult experience, or simply feeling like you need a reset.
before you begin
The most important part of a limpia is your intention. Find a quiet, comfortable space where you can be present with the ritual. You’ll need:
1 egg
1 clear glass filled about ¾ with cool or room-temperature water
Florida Water or salt water
a white candle, if you’d like
Hold the egg in both hands and set an intention for what you want to release. You can say a prayer, affirmation, or simply speak from the heart. Give thanks to the egg for being part of the process, then gently cleanse it with Florida Water or salt water.
the limpia
Light your candle and take a few moments to ground yourself. Starting at the top of your head, gently move the egg over your body, working your way down to your feet. You can repeat this several times while praying, affirming your intention, or calling in whatever feels protective and supportive to you.
When you’re finished, crack the egg directly into your glass of water. Set the glass somewhere undisturbed and let it sit for 5–10 minutes before reading it.
reading your limpia
There’s no single “right” way to read an egg cleanse. Pay attention to what immediately catches your eye and trust your intuition. Some traditional interpretations include:
Bubbles → often seen as a positive sign, representing spiritual support or energy being cleared.
Strings → can represent energetic ties, worries, or connections that may need to be released.
Cloudiness → can point to mental fog, fatigue, confusion, or energy that feels heavy.
Spikes → often associated with gossip, blockages, or energy that needs clearing.
Cages → can symbolize feeling stuck, trapped, or overly consumed by a person or situation.
Figures or symbols → may offer intuitive insight into people, situations, or themes coming through for you.
And remember: you don't have to decode every little thing you see. Sometimes the ritual is simply about setting the intention, allowing the egg to do its work, and trusting what you feel afterward.
when you're done
Take a photo of your results if you want to reflect on them later. When you’re ready, dispose of the egg and water according to your own spiritual practice. The important part is closing the ritual with the same intention you started with: release, reset, and return to yourself.
